Municipal official gets year of preventive detention for drug trafficking

LIMON – October 3rd, 2012 – A municipal official, identified by the last name Gomez, who was arrested for hiding 905 kilograms of marijuana on the Island of Uvita, in Limon, along with two other men identified by the last names Matharin and Narvaez, have each received one year of preventive detention.

 

The hearing was held on Monday, in the Limon Court of Justice.

 

The OIJ had been investigating the case for the past several weeks, finally arresting the men on suspicion of trafficking 905 kilograms of “High Red” marijuana from Jamaica, which they intended to bring into the Costa Rican market.

 

OIJ agents confiscated the drugs, with assistance from the National Coastguard Service.

 

Authorities will continue to search the island, in order to determine if there are more drugs hidden there.
