SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA – October 1st, 2012 – Autopistas del Sol, the company responsible for the toll highway leading from the Central Valley to Puntarenas, filed a lawsuit against the government in September 2011, in which they demanded payment of $90 million. According to the company, the cost of building the highway was much higher than what was established in the original agreement.
The highway, which was inaugurated in 2010, was said to have cost $250 million.
The concessionary was to recover the amount invested in a period of 25 years.
The $90 million that the concessionary is now requesting equals 36% of the cost of the project.
Despite the fact that the lawsuit was entered last year, it only began to take form last week, when on September 25th, the Attorney General’s office was named State representative in the case.
So far, the government has rejected the idea of meeting the company’s demands.
