BARRA DEL COLORADO, COSTA RICA – September 4th, 2012 – Officers from the National Coastguard Service (SNG, in Spanish), along with the United States Airforce came together in an operation called “Caribe”. The operation, which lasted 10 hours, Costa rican officers along with the aid from the United States Airforce, where able to find and confiscate 725 kilos of cocaine being transported in fastboat.
The confiscation occurred after a rather long chase, which ended in Laguna Samay, in Barra del Colorado when the speedboat ran aground and its four occupants ran and hid in the rainforest.
The drug traffickers had been followed by a P-3 U.S airplane with no artillery, which followed the speedboat at a distance of 200 meters.
The airplanes also identified a semi-submersible submarine during the early morning, which later disappeared from radar.
Mario Zamora, Security minister, stated that over 40 officers from the Fuerza Publica are searching for the men. They are working with four airplanes, a helicopter and several coastguard ships.
The director of the Fuerza Publica, Juan Jose Andrade, said that 150 more officers will join the task in watching the areas of Talamanca, Martina, Guapiles, Guacimo, Siquirres and downtown Limon.
