GUATEMALA – September 4th, 2012 – A penal judge in Guatemala delayed yesterday the hearing in which the decision about taking the Costa Rican man, Alejandro Jimenez to trial was to be made, due to two supposed heart attacks suffered by the defendant. Jimenez, known as “El Palidejo”, is charged with ordering the attack in which the popular singer Facundo Cabral died.

The judge, Carol Patricia Flores told journalists that the hearing, which was to be held yesterday, was delayed until September 10th, due to the fact that Jimenez’s attorneys indicated that he could not participate in the hearing because of his weak health situation.
The attorneys stated that Jimenez suffered from two heart attacks during the weekend, and as such was not in condition for the hearing.
Flores accepted the request to delay the hearing, and in order to verify the defendant’s true health situation, ordered that he be transferred to the “Liga Nacional del Corazon” clinic, a specialized heart attention center.
In the suspended hearing, judge Flores was to analyze the evidence presented by the District Attorney’s Office against Jimenez, in order to determine whether or not there is sufficient evidence to bring him to trial.
